I just finished the book, so naturally I wanted to see the film afterward. It wasn't bad, but next to the book it seems oversimplified and rushed. I don't see how a viewer of the film alone could become invested in the characters without having read the book. Maybe I should consider the movie a nice supplemental piece. In fairness though, the film was very faithful to the novel and was nicely cast. The cinematography is also exactly as I had imagined.
A superficial film of teen angst built upon clunky dialogue and shaky scene progression - Twilight is a film that initially feels like a production better left as an idea than a filmed entity. It's first half is awkward and moves no where through the following of the almost depressive lead character. But at the core of Twilight is its heart and the connection between its two leads, and once this romance begins to blossom the film manages to swing into a comfortable progression. Hardwicke's feminine touches are noticeable throughout the film - much focus and due attention is given to the connection of love, and it works well. The chemistry of the on-screen pair is sizzling, and it is this injection of modern romanticism that is a great thing to see. While the film takes a long while to hit its strides, and while its script foundations are dimmed, its emotion and escapism makes up for its lacklustre qualities.
Whats starts out very promising turns very sour and boring towards the end of this, is it a horror or teen flick or chick flick?The vampires in question are to embassering and to gay looking to be taking seriously and the baseball sence in general looks so cheesey thats you think your watching a STV movie.Anyway i was very disappointed and this is very much a chick flick with a vampire overton.

After reading so many positive reviews of Twilight from Critics and friends alike, I was more than willing to give the apparently awesome Teen Vampire story a chance. After actually seeing this seemingly appetizing vision I'm somewhat baffled as to what everyone is going on about. Either the critics are on drugs or they have succumbed to the swarms of angst ridden female fans, (and some male supporters) being payed off in the process. It would seem to me that as soon as this so called Twilight begins, I was bored to tears with it's sloppy narration and poorly structured plot. Having not read the book previously the film has done a thorough job of putting me off reading it.
The acting is truly abysmal, for a start, not helping me to take it seriously at all.
Pretty boy Robert Pattinson portraying the sulky Edward Cullen, is a pouting, emotionless, pale faced lout whom will have the girls drooling over for his feminine looks. We have him weakly formulating a strange romance with Kristen Stewart as new arrival Bella Swan, who doesn't so much as act but only utilizes her looks and nothing else. I'm actually shocked how critics have been fooled by this disgusting piece of film, and I'm sure a few jobs will be lost when audiences see what a drab, unsophisticated piece of shoddiness this is. Twilight could have been the next best adaptation since Harry Potter but ends up being a cross between Underwold, Buffy & Covenant. If you do go and view this at the cinema, more than likely, the majority will be either A fans of the book, or B girls who are after a soppy romantic fix. God knows, after hearing some comments, how people can endure this monstrosity, multiple times and not resist the need to systematically vomit or succumb to sleep. It honestly, in the politest way possible is like watching newly used paint on a wall dry.''I know what you are. You're impossibly fast. And strong. Your skin is pale white, and ice cold. Your eyes change colour, and sometimes you speak like, like you're from a different time. You never eat or drink anything. You don't go out in the sunlight.''
Twilight abuses the Vampire lore in many ways, opting for our sucker friends to have glittery skin in sunlight(More like sweat visually), playing baseball in stormy weather with an old Muse song accompanying(Best part of the film), and also being able to have a reflection in a mirror. All of these and more, crash this nightmare into unbelievability and beyond, causing me to lose hope for Vamp films in general. Being a fan of Bram Stokers Dracula and Interview with the Vampire, this Twilight is a wet dream of teenage hormones realized. It's got no class of a sophisticated vampire whatsoever, also lacking a decent nemesis or threat throughout. When a problem is presented in the guise of three evil Vampires, we are too bored to even give a damn about our characters or even what is to transpire next.
Granted Twilight isn't a complete catastrophe, it's got some good qualities here and there, that separate tedium from torture. The music for one seems to be good in places, as is the parts where Bella visits Edward's family. It just takes too long for these to kick in.
Before we even get to the juicy segments we are given supposedly romantic encounters between our pair. Their acting and slushy antics are about as frozen as Edward Cullen's facials appear to be. A frosty love that's about as easy to believe, as blooming Freddy Kruger or King Kong materializing before us from a hurricane of misconception. Which in other words is unbelievable, in every formulated way possible.
Billy Burke as Charlie Swan also seems to be lost throughout these strange happenings as Bella's mistreated father. Not to mention Native American friends who are brushed aside with Bella's infatuation and dazzling romance with Edward. After seeing this it's fair to say, you will want to grow up fast if this the most imagination they can conjure up on the screen for us. The realism has just sizzled from view and burst abruptly out the window.As for Director Catherine Hardwicke, has she even bothered to read the book? Or watch any Vampire films of late? I'd say she hasn't bothered doing much if this is the best she can give us. Her direction to me, seems to be poorly threaded together, resulting in a rushed, heightened, chaotic jumble of genres that makes me embarrassed to bear witness to. I mean Melissa Rosenberg's screenplay is as flimsy as paper in a storm, it seems to move at a slug's pace, while Stephenie Meyer Novel is systematically raped by this on-screen apparition. You could say that I'm not easily impressed but I'm hanging on by a thread as to what to be impressed by, as I come out of this venture. My girlfriend is as confused as I am, as it finishes, and she was the one that wanted to see this. I'm at a crossroad as to what to think. It's nearly Christmas and Twilight seems to be the only film people talk about. Simply put, God help us if this is the best we can get. Hopefully in the next few weeks a certain two films will redeem my flattened cinema viewing and give me something better to feast upon.
The last laugh being, before I forget, is that one Critic in a certain paper gave this five stars. Truly something isn't right here.''Death is peaceful - easy. Life is harder.''
I read part of the books and, unlike everyone else, I'm just not impressed. Needy girl, impossibly handsome bloke (who does not, by anyone's standards, look 17) ... we MUST have seen this before. And it's original because he's a vampire? Yeah, right.
But the book cover is awesome.
I'm a Twilight fanatic. I've read all the books. Of course the book is better than the movie...as always but I've watched it 4 times. I'm completely insane!

okay, so I was not impressed with the movie at all. The book was amazing though. Stephanie did a great job.
The movie was absolutely horrible, I'm afraid.
It started with the director, led to the special effects, and ending with the casting. I wasn't happy with Kristen Stewart's performance, mainly because I've seen other things she's been in and she was descent. I just don't thing she did justice to this role. Robert Patterson gives me the same vibe and, well, none of the Cullens really fit my description of a vampire.
All in all, the movie did not deserve the two thumbs up the I was prepared to give it. I hope New Moon is better.

Twilight was ne of the best movies that I have ever seen and I ABSOULTY LOVED it!! Rob Pattison was a perfect Edward. Peter Facinelli was a HOT Carlisle. And Jasper was cast perfectly! I totally want to see it again!! I read Twilight in about 2 weeks and it was the fastest book I have ever read! I just couldn't put it down! A tip about the movie.... Read the book first! Some parts of the movie can get confusing if you didn't read it first! They also left out some key details but not many!!! My cousin read all 4 books in about a month! My sister read them all in about 5 weeks! I absoulty recomed this book to every one and the movie too! Some parts are a little scary for younger kids but very few.
I think it comes out on dvd this Summer. It's way too long to wait!! :| I'm getting really tired of reading all the negative comments and hearing people saying "It wasn't at all like the books!!" It's a movie adaption.It's not going to cateer to your beliefs!! It's based on a book and Catherine wasn't going to make the Cullens more "vampy" for just sheer entertainment. And no one guaranteed it was going to be just like the book! I'm pretty sure people who haven't read the book won't want to be in a movie theater for six straight hours just sitting on there asses [while watching an amazing movie] and Summit didn't have $100 million for Twilight!! I'll admit, running up the hill was a cheesy special effect, but that's it!! I'm sure no die-hard twilight fan wants to hear that other people hated what they loved. So, I'm asking all you unimpressed critics to shut the hell up. :D
I would NOT see the movie without reading the first 2 books first, so last week I read both the books. I have to say I FELL IN LOVE with the story, Edward & Bella, Jacob, Esme,Rosalie, Charlie, Jasper, Carlisle, Alice, Emmet, Ect.
In the book I fell in love w/Edwards character. I have a clear picture of his looks & voice so when I saw the movie I had that vision in my head, Rob lived up to it, kinda. I expected the feminine looks but I pictured him slightly different, huskier in body & different somehow. But Rob was darned close to my Edward that I wished exsisted somewhere in this world for me..LOL..
The books kicked ass, plain & simple. The movie simplified the book. It would of been impossible to include all the subtle details & nuances that made the book so special to me. Even the special efx were hard to re create from book to movie. Had they had a bigger budget I bet the special efx would of been better.
I will see # 2 but hope they get more money to work with.
Does anyone know when it comes out officialy on DVD? Because I have money saved up and really want to buy it!
I love this movie! I thought it was awesome. It is perfect just the way it is. I have seen it twice and can't wait to see it again. I don't understand why so many people are trashing the movie. Stephanie didn't have a problem with the way it was done, so why are so many of the fans having a problem with it. Yeah, the book is much better, I agree, but the movie is special in it's own way! They will never be able to make a movie in the time frame they are giving and get it exactly like the book or excatly like everyone wants it. It's just an interpretation of the book. So, just enjoy the movie for what it is, a great love story!
I thought Kristen and Rob were superb together. The chemistry between them was powerful. I think they were casted perfectly! I didn't read the book before I saw the movie, which I am thankful for. I am glad to have faces for these characters as I read the books! The movie is now number 1 on my all time favorite movie list! It is just an amazing movie!
